NWS Birmingham Launches New GIS Data Page

Currently on an experimental basis, the National Weather Service in Birmingham has developed this GIS data page in an effort to share meteorological geospatial information to the public and GIS analysts.  This page is intended to be a one stop shop portal for access to GIS information that has been published in the past, as well as the latest information.  Our goal is to offer meteorological data to the most savvy GIS analysts as well as folks just beginning to learn about GIS.  We have tried our best, therefore, to offer data in multiple geospatial formats.  ESRI Shapefiles are offered for GIS analysts and agencies looking to create their own maps in ArcGIS and perform spatial modeling and analysis. Google Earth KMZ files are offered for those who want a detailed interactive view of GIS data.  Finally, interactive web maps are available for those that don’t have GIS software installed on their PC, but would still like to view detailed GIS information from the convenience of their web browser.
