On September 9th, Morocco was struck by an unprecedented magnitude 6.8 earthquake, a catastrophic event that has left a trail of devastation in its wake. The hardest-hit regions were Marrakesh and the remote High Atlas Mountains, situated just 75 kilometers (47 miles) west of the ancient city.

The toll this disaster has taken is heart-wrenching. The death toll has climbed to over 2,862, and more than 3,000 people are grappling with severe injuries. However, the tragedy doesn’t end there. The earthquake has also inflicted widespread damage upon homes, buildings, and vital infrastructure. Thousands of homes now lie in ruins, rendering them uninhabitable. The disruption of essential services such as access to clean water, electricity, and telecommunications has added to the mounting challenges faced by survivors.

In response to this crisis, Disaster Tech Lab has promptly mobilized an advanced assessment team on the ground. Their primary mission is to evaluate the immediate needs of the affected communities. Subsequently, we will dispatch follow-up teams equipped with essential resources. Our core focus is on two critical fronts: providing vital communication services and delivering emergency medical care to those in desperate need.
