Disaster Tech Lab Responds to Devastating Floods in Texas

Disaster Tech Lab is responding to the recent catastrophic flooding in Texas.

With over 15 years of experience in international disaster response—and a strong track record in post-flood recovery—we are deploying a team to support and strengthen communications and coordination efforts on the ground.

Read below to learn how you can help.

The Disaster: Central Texas, July 2025

In July 2025, severe flash floods swept through Central Texas, particularly along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County. The disaster has claimed at least 118 lives, including 28 children, with more than 180 people still missing. Kerr County alone has reported 94 fatalities.

Hundreds of residents have been displaced and are currently relying on temporary shelters. Communication networks are down across large parts of the affected area, severely hampering rescue and relief operations.

Relief efforts are facing significant obstacles: debris-filled terrain, poor visibility, and unauthorized drone activity have all slowed down rescue missions. Despite assistance from state, federal, and international teams, coordination remains a major challenge.

Our Mission

Disaster Tech Lab is deploying a team with the following objectives:

  • Assess the need for emergency communication services and infrastructure.

  • Deploy and maintain ad-hoc networks (e.g., Wi-Fi, Starlink) to restore connectivity for first responders and affected communities.

  • Support coordination and planning, especially among volunteer-led initiatives.

  • Assist with response management, working alongside Monday.com to enhance local coordination efforts.
