Responding to typhoon Rai.
Super Typhoon Rai – with winds of about 195km/h (120mph) – sent some 400,000 people running for safety when it hit the Philippines’ south-eastern islands. At least 300 people have died, 500 people were injured and 56 others have been reported missing by local police.Rescue teams have described scenes of “complete carnage”.
We, Disaster Tech Lab , have responded to several disasters in the Philippines before and have been asked by our partners on the ground if we can again assist. The situation is dire with widespread devastation and a relief effort that is very slow to proceed.
Our primary focus is the area in and around the city of Cebu. Our contacts there have set up a number of aid and relief coordination points providing food, water, medical care and services such as phone recharging.
