More medevacs from Ukriane.

We have been running medevacs from Ukraine for some time. First it was only civilains. Working together with Zaka, an NGO from Israel over 500 civilians were evacuted to hospitals and care-homes outside of Ukraine.
Then we added medevacs for wounded soldiers from Ukraine to hospitals elsewhere in Europe. This was a lot more complicated, not only because the patients were suffering from severe injuries and traumas but also because of the amount of bureacracy involved. In order for members of the Ukraine military to be allowed to travel abroad for medical treatment three different kinds of permissions were required. The result was that the time that would elapse between DTL receiving a request and the soldier being allowed to leave the country would normally be 3-4 weeks. In some cases requests for permission were just left unanswered.
In May we medevaced the first group to the Luisen Hospital in Aachen Germany. Since then we have done a number of individual medevacs to hospitals in the Netherlands that we can’t share pictures of.

At the middle of this month we did our most recent medevac. This time to a hospital in Romania. We’re happy to be able to share a few pictures of this.

The two soldiers who were medevaced both had suffered traumatic leg amputations during combat in the East of Ukraine. They were introduced to us by Dutch foundation “Zeilen van Vrijheid”, the same foundation who we also worked with on the medevac to Aachen. A great group of people who we can’t praise enough.
The soldiers evacuated will not only receive free medical care in Romania but the hospital in question has also offered accommodation for direct family members (wife, husband and chidren) of soldiers that we medevac there. It is a great example of how so many people and institutions are supporting Ukraine not only in thought but also through action.
