New project: Aid-post in Reni.
Reni is a border town in South-West Ukraine. It’s located on the banks of the river Danube on close to where the borders of Ukraine, Moldova and Romenia meet. Due to it’s location the town, and more specifically its harbor, is a major transit point for Ukranian grain.
Through our work with Lukas Spital in Romenia we were recently made aware of a major crisis at the border crossing point in Reni. Hundreds of trucks (and their drivers) and 1000’s of refugees were stuck there. Border crossing options are very limited causing a huge backlog.
This has resulted in a crisis were 1000’s of people are stranded in an area which cannot care for them. There is insufficient accommodation or sanitary services, food and water are in extremely short supply and there is no healthcare available.
We have been in contact withthe mayor of Reni who has granted us permission to set up an aid ppst servicing the truck drivers and refugees.
Over the coming weeks we are setting up the following facilities:
- Medical services: Medical unit, treatment room, pharmacy and small ward with beds or stretchers.
- Food distribution: Field kitchen (cooking area, prep area, storage area with cooling, cleaning area), serving counter, canteen for eating.
- Communications: Satellite uplink, public wifi network, laptops and printers for public use.
Aside from the supplies and equipment we will also work with other organisations to provide qualified and experienced personnel to manage these service on an going basis.
As always we are appealing for your support to make this happen! Please use the widget below to donate today and please also share this post. Thank you!
